• Cosgrove House. This was the home of the man who was the first person to reach the U.S.S. Maine when it was sinking in the Havana Harbor in 1898. Captain Phillip Cosgrove was a Coast Guard Veteran. The sinking of the U.S.S. Maine started the Spanish-American War. The home is now owned by the Banyan Resort. 321 Whitehead Street.
• Custom House. This house was built in 1891. This was home to the Court of Inquiry during the Spanish-American War. This building is currently being restored and will soon be a Museum of Art and History.
• Mallory Dock. This is a gorgeous place to experience an incredible sunset. There perhaps is no better such place on earth. The dock was named for a customs officer who was secretary of the navy for the Confederacy, Stephen Mallory. Hundreds of people gather here each night to watch the sun go down.
• Ernest Hemingway Home. This was where famous fiction author Ernest Hemingway made his home. Hemingway wrote several of his books on the island. The home is now open for touring.
• Key West Lighthouse Museum. This museum was once a workable lighthouse that was built in 1848. The lighthouse was used to help ships know where the shore was and to alert them to how close they were to land. The light at the top of the lighthouse can be seen for 15 miles offshore. You can climb to the top of this lighthouse for quite a spectacular view.
